Mortgage Education

Collateral is a property or any other asset that the borrower offers that can be used as a security for a debt. In the case of a mortgage, the collateral is the house and the land. If the borrower stops making payments, the lender can take hold of the house and land to recover losses on the loan.

Escrow is a deposit by a borrower to the lender of funds to pay property taxes, insurance premiums, mortgage insurance and other similar expenses when they become due. Money and property will be "in escrow" until all of the conditions of the home sale are met.

va loans

VA loans are home loans that are backed or guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs. All former and current military personnel in good standing are eligible for a VA loan for their next home purchase, as well as surviving spouses of those who served. At Essex Mortgage, we offer 100% financing, no mortgage insurance, and low closing costs to those looking to get a VA loan.
